Those of us who travel need hotels. It's a travelling kind of thing, but there's no reason why you should suffer substandard service. Let me give you some advice on how to get the best out of your hotel experience.
1. Avoid taking a room next to an lift, or close to an ice maker, or any other kind of vending machine. Everything might appear perfect prior to going to bed. But afterwards when the lights are out you will find it impossible to ignore the vibrations and hear the tiniest of noises throughout the night.

***** 5 star hotels - simply sumptuous luxury.
**** 4 star hotels - still quite magnificent.
*** 3 star hotels - probably the quality of hotel most of us use.
** 2 star hotels - still acceptable, but with less frills.
* 1 star hotels - the economy range. | 2. If a room can't be found that's not close to annoying sounbds, don't forget to pack some earplugs prior to leaving home. You can get by by shoving soft paper into your ears, however, a correctly made product of earplugs are like to have more effect and give a more natural feeling, giving you a much better nights sleep.
3. Take a close look at the alarm clock in your room to make sure it has been turned off. Every so often previous guests with a strange sense of humour set the room alarm clock to a time in the 'wee small hours' for a bit of fun. They probably think it hilarious as they do it, but I'll bet that when it rings at 5am, you won't laugh as you suddenly come awake and find yourself in darkness, not knowing where you are as an alarm clock ringing loudly!
4. Before getting into bed for the night, keep in mind the path you need to take between your bed and the bathroom, and be clear that the route is not cluttered up with unnecessary things. If you need to go to the toilet in the middle of the night you normally won't find it difficult to get off to sleep again. But you're likely to stay wide awake if you stub your toe on some hard object carelessly left on the path from your bed to the bathroom.
5. Be sure that the blinds on each window have no little gaps in them. An early morning shaft of sunlight penetrating your sweet dreams through a crack in the curtains will bring you awake much faster than you might believe. Of course, it's usually the final moments of slumber that rank way above the rest. Do nothing that might spoil times such as these.
But remember, when all's said and done its your hotel experience, and what you do is up to you. Of course my advice always help me when Im travelling and using hotels, so I recommend giving them a try.
