2. If a room can't be found that's not close to annoying sounbds, keep in mind to pack suitable earplugs before setting off. You can get by by shoving soft paper inside your ears, but an approved couple of earplugs will work much better and give a more natural feeling, allowing you to have a far superior rest for the night.

3. Check your hotel room alarm clock to make sure it has been turned off. It has been known that former guests with a strange sense of humour set the alarm clock in the hotel room to a time in the 'wee small hours' as their idea of a joke. It may seem funny to them at the time, but I'll bet that when it rings at 5am, you won't laugh as you suddenly come awake in a strange darkened room while an alarm clock clanging in your ears!

4. Before getting into bed for the night, bear in mind the path you need to take between your bed and the bathroom, and be clear that the route is not cluttered up with unnecessary things. If you need to go to the toilet in the middle of the night you normally won't find it difficult to get off to sleep again. But it wont be so easy if you stub your toe on the side of a shoe carelessly left somewhere on the route between toilet and bed.

5. Make a careful check that the drapes covering the windows are tightly shut. Bright sunlight in the morning penetrating your sweet dreams through a gap in the drapes can rouse you from your dreams quicker than you really want to know. Of course, it's usually those last hours of sleep that rank way above the rest. Do nothing that might spoil such a special time.
