Travellers require hotels. It's the way it's always been, but you shouldn't have to tolerate substandard service. Here are a few tips to get a really good deal from your hotel experience.
1. Avoid taking a room next to an elevator, or anywhere near an ice machine, or other type of machinery. It may seem fine prior to going to bed. However, with the room darkened you will feel the tremblings and hear barely audible sounds all the way until morning.

***** 5 star hotels - simply sumptuous luxury.
**** 4 star hotels - still quite magnificent.
*** 3 star hotels - probably the quality of hotel most of us use.
** 2 star hotels - still acceptable, but with less frills.
* 1 star hotels - the economy range. | 2. If a room can't be found away from external noises, don't forget to bring along some earplugs prior to leaving home. You can get by by ramming tissue paper in your ears, but an approved couple of earplugs will work much better and provide better comfort, allowing you to have a much better nights sleep.
3. Examine the alarm clock where you're staying to create sure it has been turned off. Sometimes previous hotel visitors with a strange sense of humour set the alarm clock in the hotel room to an unforgiveably early hour as their idea of a joke. Probably, they find it most amusing when they do it, however, it won't be you laughing uncontrolably at 3am when you wake up and find yourself in darkness, not knowing where you are as an alarm clock clanging in your ears!
4. Before you finally bed down, don't forget the path you need to take between your bed and the bathroom, and be certain that there are no obstruction in the way. If a trip to the bathroom become necessary later falling asleep again is often easy enough. But it wont be so easy if you stub your toe on the heel of one of your shoes left lying on the path from your bed to the bathroom.
5. Be sure that the blinds on each window have no little gaps in them. A glare of sun hitting your closed eyelids through a gap in the drapes can rouse you from your dreams quicker than you'd care to know. It's always the final moments of slumber that stand superior. Don't upset such a special time.
On the other hand, at the end of the day its your hotel experience, and you can do what you like. But my advice are useful to me when I'm on the move and staying in hotel rooms, so I'm recommending those strategies to you.
