Anyone who travels need hotels. It's the way it's always been, but there's no reason why you should suffer less than acceptable service. You should use these suggestions to get the best deal you can from your hotel stay.
1. Avoid taking a room near an lift, or next to an ice maker, or any other kind of machinery. Everything might appear perfect prior to going to bed. But afterwards as you lie in the dark you will feel the movements and become aware of the tiniest of noises right through until daybreak.

Probably, they find it most amusing when they do it, but I'll bet that when it rings at 5am, you won't laugh when you wake up and find yourself in darkness, not knowing where you are with an alarm clock making a deafening noise to waken the dead!
4. Before getting into bed for the night, don't forget the path you need to take between your bed and the bathroom, and be clear that the route is not cluttered up with unnecessary things. If you need to go to the toilet in the middle of the night you normally won't find it difficult to get off to sleep again. However, you'll find it much more difficult should you bang your foot on some hard object cast aside on the path from your bed to the bathroom.
5. Be sure that the blinds of your room windows have no little gaps in them. A ray of sunshine landing on you sleeping face through a crack in the curtains can awaken you more easily than you might believe. And its often the final moments of slumber that rank way above the rest. Don't ruin times such as these.
Of course, when all's said and done its your hotel experience, and you can do what you like. Of course these strategies are useful to me out on the road when hotels are a necessity, and with that in mind you could do worse than try them.
