Those of us who travel want hotels. Its part of the travelling deal, but there's no reason why you should suffer unnacceptable service . You should use these suggestions to get the best deal you can from your hotel stay.
1. Never take a room close to an lift, or near by an ice machine, or other type of machinery. You may be satisfied with how things are prior to going to bed. However, when the lights are out you will feel the shakings and become aware of every little sound all night long.

It's possible to get by by shoving toilet paper inside your ears, but a proper pair of earplugs will be much more effective and give a more natural feeling, providing you with a vastly better nights sleep.
3. Take a close look at the alarm clock in your room to create sure it has been turned off. It has been known that previous guests whose sense of humor is wierd set the room alarm clock to an unforgiveably early hour for a practical joke. They probably think it hilarious as they do it, however, it won't be you laughing uncontrolably at 3am when you come awake all of a sudden and find yourself in darkness, not knowing where you are while an alarm clock ringing loudly!
4. Before getting into bed for the night, bear in mind the route from your bed to the toilet, and be clear that the route is not cluttered up with unnecessary things. If a trip to the bathroom become necessary later falling asleep again is often easy enough. But you're likely to stay wide awake if you injure your toes on some hard object cast aside somewhere on the route between toilet and bed.
5. Check carefully that the curtains on each window have no little gaps in them. A ray of sunshine hitting your closed eyelids through a gap in the drapes will bring you awake much faster than you'd care to know. And its often those last hours of sleep that rank way above the rest. Don't ruin those precious moments.
Of course, at the end of the day its your hotel experience, and you're free to make your own choices. However my way of coping with a hotel room are useful to me when Im travelling and using hotels, and with that in mind you could do worse than try them.
