2. If a room can't be found away from external noises, don't forget to stow away suitable earplugs before setting off. You can improvise by shoving tissue paper into your ears, however, a correctly made product of earplugs will be much more effective and give a more natural feeling, allowing you to have a vastly better rest for the night.

3. Check your hotel room alarm clock to make sure it has been turned off. Every so often prior hotel visitors with a strange sense of humour set the alarm clock in the hotel room to a time in the 'wee small hours' for a bit of fun. Probably, they find it most amusing when they do it, but you wont laugh at 4am when you come awake all of a sudden with pitch darkness all around in an unfamiliar place with an alarm clock clanging in your ears!

4. Before getting into bed for the night, remember the route from your bed to the toilet, and be clear that the route is not cluttered up with unnecessary things. Should you find the need to visit the bathroom later you normally won't find it difficult to get off to sleep again. But it wont be so easy if you injure your toes on something hard and unyielding left lying on the path from your bed to the bathroom.

5. Be sure that the blinds of your room windows are fully closed. An early morning shaft of sunlight penetrating your sweet dreams through a gap in the drapes will bring you awake much faster than you'd care to know. And its often those last hours of sleep that stand superior. Don't upset times such as these.

However, let's bear in mind what happens in the hotel is up to you, and what you do is up to you. But my way of coping with a hotel room have kept me in good stead when I'm on the move and staying in hotel rooms, so I'm recommending those strategies to you.
