2. If a room can't be found that's not close to annoying sounbds, bear in mind to stow away a pair of earplugs prior to leaving home. You can get by by stuffing toilet paper within your ears, however, a correctly made product of earplugs will work much better and feel much more comfortable, giving you a greatly improved overnight slumber.

3. Check your hotel room alarm clock to create sure it has been turned off. It has been known that prior hotel visitors whose sense of humor is wierd set the room alarm clock to an unforgiveably early hour as their idea of a joke. They probably think it hilarious as they do it, however, it won't be you laughing uncontrolably at 3am when you wake up with pitch darkness all around in an unfamiliar place with an alarm clock clanging in your ears!

4. Before you finally bed down, keep in mind the path you need to take between your bed and the bathroom, and be certain that there are no obstruction in the way. If you need to go to the toilet in the middle of the night you normally won't find it difficult to get off to sleep again. But you're likely to stay wide awake if you injure your toes on something hard and unyielding left lying somewhere on the route between toilet and bed.

5. Check carefully that the curtains on each window are fully closed. A ray of sunshine landing on you sleeping face through a gap in the drapes can rouse you from your dreams quicker than you really want to know. Of course, it's usually the final moments of slumber that rank way above the rest. Be careful not to interfere with such a special time.

Of course, when all's said and done its your hotel experience, and you're free to make your own choices. But my advice have kept me in good stead when I'm on the move and staying in hotel rooms, so I recommend giving them a try.
